As you age, you may notice that smiling or frowning can leave wrinkles on your skin. You may think that this is an inevitable part of getting older, but that’s not necessarily the case. To help combat signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, you can turn to neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport.
At ALC Medspa, we offer Dysport injectables for people who have signs of aging and want to diminish them or for those who want to prevent them in the future. Read on to learn more about what Dysport offers.
Dysport injectables are neuromodulators made from the botulinum bacterium. Neuromodulators work by interrupting the signals your brain sends to the targeted muscles, stopping them from contracting. This is very helpful when dealing with dynamic wrinkles.
Dynamic wrinkles are wrinkles that appear when you make any expression, including frowning and smiling. These wrinkles become more prominent as you get older because the collagen and elastin production in your body decreases.
Collagen and elastin keep your skin firm and plump, so when production decreases, your skin can crease more easily and doesn’t bounce back into place like it used to.
By preventing your muscles from contracting, Dysport injections help your skin look smoother.
Dysport injections can help reduce the appearance of:
The right candidates for Dysport are people who are in good health, have realistic expectations, are at least 18 years old, and want to diminish the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have very thick skin, have serious medical conditions, suffer from bleeding disorders, or have muscle weakness, you may not be the right candidate for neuromodulators.
Both Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators that have been around for years. One of the main differences between them is the areas they treat.
Botox can treat areas of the face, while Dysport works best for glabellar lines and forehead lines. Dysport tends to be a better option for larger surface areas, while Botox works well on smaller and more delicate locations.
Dysport usually lasts longer than Botox and, on average, people see results more quickly with Dysport than with Botox. Dysport is also less expensive.
Dysport injections are minimally invasive options that are perfect for people who don’t want to undergo surgery to diminish wrinkles and fine lines or who are allergic to anesthesia and can’t have surgical procedures.
Neuromodulators do not require a long recovery time, so you can return to your regular activities immediately after receiving the injections. The process is also quick, allowing you to receive the injections in just a few minutes.
Another benefit that Dysport offers is the chance to prevent future wrinkles. When you get regular injections, you can teach the muscles in the treatment area not to contract as forcefully.
When you come to your consultation to see if you’re a good candidate for the injections, we will ask about any previous experiences you have had with neuromodulators. We also need to know your medical history and get a list of the medications and supplements you take.
Then, it’s your turn to ask any questions about the procedure.
If we think you’re a good candidate, we will ask that you do a few things to prepare for the injections.
We ask that you stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, and any other medications or supplements that thin your blood. Remember to always check with your GP before stopping medications.
We also recommend that you do not drink wine in the days leading up to the injections. You want to avoid other cosmetic procedures like chemical peels, facials, or anything else that can make your skin more sensitive.
On the day of your injections, we recommend that you avoid wearing makeup, lotions, creams, and sunscreen on the treatment area. We will clean your skin before beginning. If you want, you can ask for a topical numbing cream.
The number of injections you receive will depend on several factors, including the size of the treatment area. We will discuss this with you during your consultation.
The entire process takes about 20 minutes, and you are free to return to your day after without worrying about downtime.
It’s important that you do not scratch, rub, or massage the injection sites so you can allow the Dysport to settle. Throughout the day, you can apply an ice pack if you need to.
Don’t get any other facial treatments for at least 24 hours and avoid strenuous exercise. It’s also a good idea to avoid alcohol for a few more days and not take blood-thinning medications.
You may start seeing results as soon as a couple of days after the procedure. Depending on your own metabolism and the size of the treatment area, you can expect the results to last from three to four months.
For people who want to diminish the signs of aging that dynamic wrinkles cause, like wrinkles and fine lines, Dysport and neuromodulators may be the right solution.
